Super Puppy Program

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) also known as the Bio Sensor program, was developed by the U.S. Military to give dogs superior advantages to improve the performance of their canine program by stimulating the neurological system of newborn puppies. With each puppy, from days 3 to 16, we will perform 5 exercises once per day that produces neurological stimulations, which would not naturally occur during this early period of life. Tactile Stimulation, Head Held Erect, Supine Position, Head Pointed Down and Thermal Stimulation.

Benefits of ENS

  • Improved cardiovascular performance
  • Stronger heart beats
  • Stronger adrenal glands
  • More tolerance to stress
  • Greater resistance to diseases

Early Scent Introduction (ESI)

Early Scent Introduction (ESI) was developed by Dr. Gayle Watkins of Avidog. Just like ENS, she wanted to see if she could use this same neonatal period to improve a dogs scenting ability. Again from days 3-16, each puppy is exposed to one new scent each day for about 5 seconds to observe their reactions. Scents such as grass, dirt, mint, chicken feathers, lemons, leather, banana… A newborn wouldn’t normally have access to these smells to use their little noses. There are 3 reactions. They will either love the scent, try to get away from it or have no reaction at all.

Benefits of ESI

  • Increases the neuroplasticity in neonates
  • Creates a more aware and alert dog
  • Drastically increases their scenting ability
  • Helps scent work that can assist in Service and Therapy work and even medical alert
  • Higher and Earlier results in hunt and field trials

Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test (PAT)

Our Puppy Aptitude Test (PAT) is a temperament test that we do at 7 weeks old, prior to them being tainted by any outside prior learning. In the early 60’s these tests determined that it was indeed possible to predict future behavioral traits of adult dogs by testing puppies at 49 days (7 weeks) of age. There are never any winners or losers. The main purpose of this test is to help choose the right puppy for the right home.
